My Story

Birth has always been a part of my life ever since I was a child. I was 7 years old when my mom revealed she was pregnant with my sister, but I had already dreamt & anticipated her arrival. I was so excited to be a big sister.

My family knows how important it is to honor “la cuarentena”, our 40 day/6 week post-partum cycle. During her pregnancy, my mom taught me to make traditional calditos (stews) & teas. She also showed me how to assist around the house, as she wouldn’t have much capacity after birth.

Upon my sister’s arrival, my abuelita came to visit. During her stay she taught me about sobadas (massages), aceites (oils) & other herbal remedies that will help heal my mom during her cuarentena. I was very curious & attentive to my mom & baby sister.

In 2006, I was 10 when my mom had my little brother. And again in 2010, at 14, my mom had my baby brother. Everything that I had learned with my sister became instinctual. I knew how to care for my mom & siblings as they needed during their periods of rest & healing.

It took me years later to realize that this was exactly what I was supposed to do. Years after attending university, as I am connecting with the divine, my ancestors & the land, I have found my way back to myself & inner child with such curiosity & fervor to support birthing people on their journey into parenthood.
